Our Veils

by Jim Freedom

Our veils, our fears, our bodies, our minds; without them we would not be. Our person, our personality, our mask, is the image we have of ourselves.

For just one moment if I let go of my mask, if I look through yours, I would see myself, I would see nothing. I am you.

Thank you for having your veils. Thank you for being the separate and distinct person that you are. Your veil, your personality, your being is your part; your color of the rainbow, without you there would be no rainbow. Your veil is my veil with just a little different colored light shinning on it.

It only takes a moment to see beyond the veil, to see the illusion that we are, to free yourself to see the beauty in the illusion. Dwell in that moment often.

When I hear the word "veil" I often think of those women in the middle east who are forced to cover up because the men can not control themselves. Instead of making the men responsible for their behaviors the religions have punished the women for the men's immaturity. If you have no responsibility, you have no power. If we take their responsibility we take their power and we can control them.

It hurts to see people afraid of themselves. We hide behind our veils because we are afraid of our reactions to other people's reactions of our honesty.
